Fire, Rescue and Safety

Fire and Safety

bedford_fireAs an airfield licenced for training, Seething Airfield has to have a fire and resue unit trained in fire fighting, rescue and first aid to CAA standards. They are on call to respond to emergencies around the airfield on flight training days and on other specified events such as air displays.

The team's equipment includes Rescue 1 - a Landrover rescue vehicle and Rescue 2 - a Bedford fire tender.

Rescue Training:

The team practice resuce scenarios, in this case a 'casualty' is rescued have fallen from a staircase and, being the dummy that he really is, on recovering remarkably quickly promptly gets crushed by falling scaffolding. A passing doctor is on hand to provide assistance.

Fire Training:

Don't be alarmed if you notice plumes of black smoke across the airfield - It will be the fire crews carrying out another drill. Drills, both frequent and necessary, are required to maintain a minimum standard as set by the CAA. They test incident response times - every second counts when a plane is on fire!. Drills also perfect rescue techniques and various scenarios will be placed around the airfield and you may be asked to participate - probably as a casualty.
