Over 150 Flying Club members were present at Seething Airfield on Saturday 5th June to celebrate Waveney Flying Group's fiftieth anniversary.
The club was formed in 1960 by founder members Dick Boulter, Gordon Craik, Jimmy Hoseason and Bill Wix, and we were delighted that Dick and Bill together with Jimmy Hoseason's widow Leslie, could attend this fiftieth birthday reunion.
The day also saw the opening and naming of the new hangar as "The Founders' Hangar" with each of the four bays bearing the name of a founder member.

Mike had put together a fascinating photo display of WFG history which proved very popular and generally there was a whole lot of reminiscing going on.
Everyone gathered in the glorious sunshine as they were welcomed by the current Waveney Flying Group secretary Tim Mobbs who spoke of the group's development in the early days before introducing Wingtask 1995 Ltd. chairman Philip Lawrence. Craig Morris spoke for everyone who learnt to fly at Seething and presented Leslie Hoseason with a bouquet of flowers before introducing our current CFI to say a few words.
Each spoke of the special atmosphere at Seething and of the club's ethos of bringing flying within the reach of the average person on the street, and this was re-inforced by our special guest, BBC East senior reported Alex Dunlop.
Alex and his wife Susie Fowler Watt knew Jimmy Hoseason well and often went flying with him. We were delighted then when he cut the ribbon to officially open The Founders Hangar.

The buffet was, as always delicious and was very well received. Rosie had baked a magnificent cake for the occassion and we were delighted that Susie was able to do the honours and cut it for us. Entertainment was provided by "Airwave" courtesy of Micky who provided background music throughout the meal.

As the day passed into evening it was time to let our hair down (those who had some!) for the BBQ & Hangar Bash Saturday Night Sleepover. This was the first of what we hope will be an annual fly in event. Where aircraft had been standing earlier, a camp site sprung up, and we were delighted to to welcome local band "Lowrider" to Hangar One. At least it wasn't far to stumble when the music ended in the small hours and we all hit the sack.
