Welcome to Seething Airfield, Norfolk

A busy day at Seething AirfieldSeething Airfield is a privately owned airfield in Norfolk situated south east of Norwich and just a few miles from the east coast. The airfield is run on a non-commercial basis by members of the flying club who benefit from low cost flying and pilot training.

The airfield is part of the former RAF Seething, home of the USAF 448th Bomb Group of the Second World War. The club maintains 800 metres of the eastern end of the 1,850 metre runway constructed between 1942 and 1943. You can get a feel for those days at the old Control Tower museum which is open on the first Sunday of every month between May and October.

The Club

The club's history goes back to 1960 when a group of enthusiastic aviators set up a flying club at the airfield. The Waveney Flying Group was set up with the aim of bring flying within the reach of the ordinary person on the street and with the lease of a Miles Messenger and subsequently a Tiger Moth the club flourished. Its close proximity to Great Yarmouth meant the airfield saw quite a bit of celebrity use.

Since the millennium the club house and hangers have been developed and the airfield become a friendly centre for low cost aviation and pilot training.

The Airfield Today

Seething Airfield is a popular airfield for visitors around the country. There are no landing fees, though visitors are invited to make a donation which goes towards the upkeep of the runway and airfield facilities. We rely on Club members to maintain the fabric of the airfield, run the club house bar and kitchen and pilot training is carried out by qualified volunteer instructors.

Situated close to the Norfolk and Suffolk border a few miles from the coast the airfield lies in uncongested airspace surrounded by picturesque countryside. The city of Norwich is just 9 miles to the north west while the coastal resorts of Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth are about 15 miles to the east.
